Types of Skiing

Skiing is one of the most versatile sports that include different style and even methods that you can master. Since its discovery, it has been modified and developed by different people. It is not anymore only associated with snow as you can do it on a flat terrain, water or sand.

Skiing has two basic styles - The alpine or what is known as downhill skiing and the Nordic or called the cross country. These two types use different equipment and goes with their own technique. When it comes to equipment, Nordic skiing got its ski boots attached to the skis but only at the toe allowing the heel to get lifted and give way to striding motion. On the other hand, with alpine skiing, the boots is set firmly to the skis giving control on speed and turn. For the ski boots, Nordic uses flexible and low cut rather than the rigid and high boots that is being used in alpine skiing. Take note that the skis in Nordic are longer and thinner compared to alpine skis that can give better gliding movement.Alpine skiing is further divided into two - powder and moguls. Powder skiing are often preferred by many skiing enthusiast. It is skiing in the type of snow condition that is light and dry. A lot prefer this than groomed trails because the technical finesse it can manifest. On the other hand, skiing in a mogul terrain requires more ability and skills. Moguls are often referred to as the bumps in the trail that is formed due to being repeatedly used by a lot of skiers. It takes a lot practice in order to be able to maneuver into the moguls. Remember that staying in control is the way to go when you are skiing on moguls
